The original purchaser of this piece was my great grandfather, an antique collector all his life. Unfortunately, due to hard times and the economy we are forced to sell it. We  have always thought it to be a washstand but through research we have learned that it is a nightstand or a "pedestal table." Just recently we discovered the name GILLOW stamped on the top edge of the door. Gillow was a famous 19th century furniture maker from England. The logo stamped on this, dates this stand from the mid 19th century to the end of the 19th century, when the logo then changed. The  stand measures 31 3/4" tall x 14 3/4" wide x 13 1/4" deep. We do not know much about wood but we have been told by Dad that Grandpa had said that it was Tiger Maple, and Grandpa was an antique dealer for over 50 years. It has aged well. Please look at all photos carefully to come to your own opinion as to the condition. Our family has always loved it and have tried to take good care of it but "Beauty Is in the eye of the beholder". To my knowledge since has been in our family it has never been refinished. There is a hole in the door and a slot on the inside leading us to believe there may have been hardware on it at one time but as long as we have owned it there has never been any. The door sits a little "off " or 'warped" and comes open depending on where we place it in our home. (I always kept it closed with a small piece of paper). There are a few very small paint spatters in a couple of spots but nothing that would take away from the value or its beauty. This is a beautiful cherished piece of furniture that will be deeply missed.
